Cassandra
$950.00 CAD
Mixed media painting on paper, 22x30.
Titled Cassandra, after the mythological Trojan priestess described by Homer, Aeschylus, and other poets. In the tragedies of the House of Atreus, she is cursed by Apollo with the ability to deliver true prophecies but believed by no one, leading to her ultimate demise. Cast as insane and pitiful in Agamemnon, a prophetess without persuasive powers and a nightingale in lament, this is an ode to recontextualize her voice and unheard truths; a singular personnage with agency and expression, rather than a device of suffering.
Framed and ready to hang.
