The Tempo of Dawn

Some songs are like centres of gravity,

a magnetic force pulling down into the bellows of the earth, 

others, always a feather out of reach. 

As if washing your face in a sink basin, drifting away, 

as if the feeling were out there 

and beyond the periphery of musical phrasing. 

If I were a songwriter and a dancer 

I’d be the pulse and whisper of

blue, violet, orange, green

drawing out melodies and sequences 

like pulling constellations out of the sky, 

venerating them with the rhythm of the seasons.
